The Battery

We took a stroll on the breezy Battery today, and though all the grand homes are bracing for Hurricane Irma and most are boarded up, they are still exquisite. 1 East Battery, known as the Louis DeSaussure House, is the most photographed house in Charleston. The antebellum beauty was completed in 1859. It was also once home to our friend True Applegate Edwards' grandmother Dorothy Applegate, aka "Granny Apple," who was born in 1919, and passed away in 2013 at 94! A vibrant and strong lady living in a vibrant and strong home. Imagine how many storms both-literally and figuratively- she survived in that beautiful Battery fortress. #explorecharleston #hurricaneirma #chsbattery
